The Dodgers have a limited signing bonus pool of approximately $4.6 million to spend on international free agents this year. But they have already signed one of the top prospects from the Dominican Republic.
The team has not announced any signings of the first day of the international signing period Saturday. But reports from Baseball America and MLB.com indicate 17-year-old infielder Samuel Munoz has signed with the Dodgers.
Munoz is ranked seventh on MLB.com’s Top 50 international prospects. The left-handed hitter is considered an attractive power prospect with expectations that he will grow into his large frame. Currently a third baseman, he could move to first as he grows.
The Dodgers have also reportedly signed the No. 37 prospect, 17-year-old Venezualan right-hander Accimia Morales.
Among the Dodgers’ other reported signings are Dominicans catcher Javier Pena, outfielder Josue De Paula, right-hander Domingo Geronimo, right-hander Yuliangel de la Cruz and infielder Jeral Perez; infielder Alexander Albertus from Aruba; Venezuelan right-hander Luciano Romero; and shortstop Mairo Martinus from Curacao – the island nation that has also produced long-time Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen and current Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies.
