The OC Health Care Agency reported 5,081 new cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday, Jan. 11, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 402,886.
There were 72,873 new infections reported in the last two week period as of Tuesday.
Another 49 people with confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in Orange County hospitals on Tuesday, bringing the total number of hospitalizations to 1,013 with 159 patients in intensive care units.
The county reported three more deaths as of Tuesday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 5,911.
The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on Dec. 31.
Of the 5,911 deaths reported from the virus, 1,221` were skilled nursing facility residents, 647 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates and 19 were listed as homeless.
It is estimated 313,335 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
