The wave of COVID-19 continues to hit the Jets as head coach Robert Saleh tested positive Wednesday morning.
Saleh showed symptoms and is currently going through protocols. Tight end coach Ron Middleton will run practice.
Saleh is vaccinated and can come off the COVID-19 reserved list before Sunday’s game against the Jaguars if he tests negative twice before.
But if Saleh isn’t cleared, Middleton will be the head coach this Sunday.
Middleton begins his first season with the New York Jets after joining Robert Saleh’s staff as the tight ends coach. An NFL tight end for 10 seasons, Middleton has been coaching since 1997, including 11 seasons at the NFL level.
This is Middleton’s first season with the Jets. He spent eight seasons with the Jaguars as their tight ends coach. Middleton played tight end in the NFL for five teams between 1986 and 1995.
This is a developing story.
