1. PREVENT HERBERT HOME RUNS
Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense are tied for second in the NFL with 10 pass plays of 40-plus yards, including three last week against the Cincinnati Bengals (47, 44, 41). The Giants defense has allowed only three 40-plus yard pass plays all season. Giants defensive coordinator Pat Graham will be determined to keep Herbert’s throws underneath.
2. RUN, SAQUON, RUN!
The Chargers have the NFL’s second-worst run defense (141.2 rushing yards allowed per game). Coach Brandon Staley prefers to keep the ball in front of his defense rather than allowing big plays downfield. Saquon Barkley is slumping big-time. The Giants need him to break out, and this could be the right opponent at the right time.
3. SCORE TOUCHDOWNS
The Giants have scored only 11 offensive touchdowns all season, including two total in the last three weeks. Only the Panthers (10), Bears (10) and Jaguars (nine) have fewer. The Chargers have scored 27 offensive TDs. Only the Bucs (34) and Rams (30) have more. It’ll be Mike Glennon vs. Herbert. Gulp.
